The competition is strong in the entry-level luxury SUV segment, and with products like the Audi Q3 and the Cadillac XT4, there’s plenty to debate for hours. Which one is the best?
The answer may vary from one person to another, depending on their allegiances. However, if you take the time to examine the forces at work objectively, you’ll have to admit that Cadillac has a slight edge with its XT4.
The following are a few examples.
Performance
Audi offers a very diverse lineup, and many of its models are known for their performance. In the case of the Q3, however, the engines in the lineup don’t provide as much power as some users may want. Two engines are offered in the 2023 Audi Q3, but only the second one provides enough performance to justify the Q3’s price. The base 4-cylinder turbo is rated at 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. To get any kind of response, you have to opt for the more powerful version… which is also more expensive. Doing at least gives you 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
That’s better, but the only engine offered with the 2023 Cadillac XT4 offers more than both Q3 engines at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. You get more power for $10,000 less from Cadillac.
Cargo capacity
Both models are versatile, but to find more space behind the first row, you have to go with Cadillac. The 2023 XT4 gives you 1,385 liters versus 1,359 for the Q3. You also get more passenger space in the Cadillac.
Towing
Just because you buy a smaller SUV doesn’t mean you don’t want to be able to tow small loads. No official figures have been announced by Audi, but with a little digging, it’s possible to tow around 2,000 pounds with a Q3, once it’s equipped with the necessary equipment.
With the Cadillac XT4, the capacity is 3,500 pounds with the right equipment.
Behind the wheel
Finally, while comfort and handling are excellent with the Q3, there’s a greater sense of luxury and refinement with the Cadillac XT4. To experience this, test drive both vehicles and you’ll see the differences for yourself.
